Cosinus Slide Joints

Cosinus Slide Video – “The importance of joints in concrete”

Cosinus Slide Joints, supplied by Fibre Concrete Solutions, provide market leading performance for the jointing of industrial floors and pavements.

The correct joint and jointing layout for industrial floors are essential for warehouse operations. This is critical where logistics are becoming ever more essential to allow efficient business operations in the modern world.

Dynamic loads from MHE’s can damage floors and joints due to wheel impact loads and inefficient load transfer. Detailed analysis has shown how traditional joints can allow stresses to concentrated on individual dowels developing high stress and deflection, reducing the durability of the floor.

The Cosinus Slide Joint is designed and developed to efficiently transfer loads and stresses that are developed from the dynamic action of MHE’s by preventing wheel impact and damage to the concrete floor adjacent to the joint.

The design of the joint results in an even distribution of stresses due to the unique double “slide” effect.

The benefits of Cosinus Slide Joints are not restricted to just dynamic loads.

The jointing layout is often dictated by the position of static loads from racking or mezzanine posts.  The issue for designers is to understand the effect of load on the joint and how the load is efficiently transferred across the joint.

Individual dowels may only transfer 20 to 30% of load across the joint.  In comparison Cosinus Slide will allow a load transfer up to a maximum of 48%.  This increases the flexibility for the positioning of loads and future proofing the floor for changes of use and the possibility of increased loading.

Assistance

Fibre Concrete Solutions, working closely with HCJ can provide detailed calculations demonstrating the performance of floor and joint for a variety of load conditions.  Specific projects can be reviewed to consider all aspects of jointing and detailing, together with the appropriate fibre design and solution.
